Paul James Vest

Paul James Vest
February 28, 1941 ~ September 13, 2012

Paul James Vest was born February 28, 1941 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Paul and Minta Belle [Johnson] Vest. He died on September 13, 2012 at his home in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 71. Memorial services will be held 10 AM, Tuesday, September 18, 2012 with Pastor Jack Darnell First Church of God, 1905 NW Smith, Lawton, Oklahoma.

At an early age Paul and his family moved to Panama where he was raised and attended school. He received a pre-law degree in Panama. In 1956 he moved to Lawton, he served in the US Army from 1950 to 1960 when he was given a medical discharge.

He moved to Detroit and eventually owned and operated five restaurants, during this period he became an executive chef.

On February 7, 1993 Paul married Mary Ellen Dailey in Shenandoah, Iowa. He retired in 1996 and moved back to Lawton in 2005.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Shrine Temple, Good Sam RV club, and the Church of God, 19th and Smith Ave, Lawton, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by both parents; son, Ronald Vest who was killed in action in Vietnam, and one brother Virgil Vest.

Survived by his wife, Mary, Lawton, OK; three sons, Randy Vest, Iowa Ciy, Iowa, Jessie Vest, Hamburg, Iowa, Bradley Vest, Bedford, Iowa; four daughters, Tanya Cheek, Lawton, OK, Gaylen Weil, Shenandoah, Iowa, Barbara Etheridge, Omaha, NE, Michael Weil, Omaha, NE; 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles and wife Shirley Vest of Neneka, OK, James Vest of Lawton, Edward and wife Gladys of Califorina; two sisters, Lucia Garrison of Oklahoma City, Gloria and husband Don Freeman of Detroit, Michigan.
