Jeanette Catherine Vassar, of Ponca City, OK, crossed the rainbow bridge to her Heavenly home on Friday, Feb. 21, 2020.
Rosary services were held at 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 23 at Grace Funeral Home in Ponca City and funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 24 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Carson officiating.
Jeanette was born on Mar. 9, 1935, in Blackwell, OK to parents, Matilda and Frank Koehler. Jeanette graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Wichita, Kansas and married Fred Fleharty (deceased) on Dec. 30, 1957. Together, they had five children, Catherine Alice (deceased), Richard Earl, twins Janet Louise and Janice Marie, and Susan Renee. After establishing their home, Jeanette attended Ponca City Beauty College and thus began her lifelong career as a cosmetologist and teacher at her alma mater.
Jeanette established a home and business, known as Sassy Shears, east of Ponca City and married Loren Meeks who preceded her in death. Jeanette later married Kenneth Vassar (deceased) and spent many years traveling, collecting yard ornaments, completing household projects, working outside in her flower gardens and spending time with friends and family.
Jeanette is preceded in death by daughter, Catherine Fleharty, parents, Matilda and Frank Koehler, former husbands, Fred Fleharty, Loren Meeks and Kenneth Vassar, and brothers, Frank Edward and Henry David. She is survived by son, Richard Fleharty, daughter, Janet Roe and husband Jiri Pesl, daughter Janice and husband Wendel Helm, daughter, Susan and husband David Wilkerson, sister, Mary Hellhake and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons Jason Roe, Charlie Roe, Tristan Helm, Jake Wilkerson, Andy Ginn and Jonathan Copeland.
