Billy Joe VanBuskirk Sr.
December 19, 1938 ~ April 25, 2019

Billy Joe VanBuskirk Sr. age 80, of Newcastle, OK passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at his home. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loving family. Billy was born December 19, 1938, in the country near Seminole, OK. He was the third of six sons born to Dorphus Arlander VanBuskirk and Johnnie Lee (Dooley) VanBuskirk. Billy grew up in Elmore City, OK and graduated high school there with the class of 1957. Nearly two years later he married the love of his life, Mary Francis McClellan. They were married on March 28, 1959 in Davis, OK. Billy and Mary together raised three children, Kathy, Cindy and Billy Jr.

Billy and his family lived in the OKC area from 1965 to 1986. He then moved to Newcastle, built a home and has lived in Newcastle for the past 33 years. While living in OKC, Billy began working for Western Electric. He remained with the company even when it changed to AT&T and later Lucent Technology. He later retired after 36 years of faithful service with the company.

Throughout his life, Billy loved being in the outdoors and working with his hands. He enjoyed fishing, target shooting, woodworking, working in his yard and spending time in his shop. Most of all, he and Mary enjoyed traveling, especially to Colorado and they enjoyed spending time with their family. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was a special brother, uncle and a good neighbor and friend.

He was preceded in death by:

Parents, Dorphus and Johnnie,

Three brothers, Dorphus Jr, Johnny and Don VanBuskirk.

He is survived by:

Wife of 60 years, Mary VanBuskirk of the home in Newcastle,

Two daughters, Cathy VanBuskirk of Norman,

Cindy O’Brien of OKC,

One son, Billy VanBuskirk Jr. and wife Leslie of Moore,

Two brothers, David and Phil VanBuskirk.

Three granddaughters, five great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life for Billy will be held at his home at 1:00pm, on Monday, April 29, 2019. All of his family and friends are invited; bring your lawn chairs and come share your memories with one another. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
