Funeral service for Martha Linnie (Croan) Boyer VanHoy, 98, of Fairview will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Fairview First United Methodist Church. Reverend Rich Redinger will officiate. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery near South Haven, Kansas. Arrangements are by Fairview Funeral Home Inc.
Martha Linnie (Croan) Boyer Van Hoy was born May 11, 1918 at the family farm home near Hunnewell, Kansas to John and Ida (Lockard) Croan and passed away June 17, 2016 at the Fairview Fellowship Home.
Martha attended the Hunnewell grade school through the eighth grade and graduated high school at South Haven, Kansas. Martha married Earl "Banty" Boyer August 17, 1936 in Flagstaff, Arizona. After a year in Arizona, they returned to Hunnewell and bought a filling station. In 1939, son, Larry was born. The family moved in 1949 to Blackwell, Oklahoma where Martha went to work for the C.R. Anthony Co., retiring in 1975 after 26 years of service. Earl passed away in July of 1969. She married Delbert Van Hoy in 1975 but was widowed again in November of 1976.
Martha worked as a checker for Fay's IGA Market in Blackwell from 1977 until its closing in 1984. She then managed the Kittie Houston HUD apartments from 1985 to September of 1996. In August of 1998 she moved to Fairview to be closer to her family. Martha enjoyed her family, friends, church and small town atmosphere. She was a resident of the Fairview Fellowship Home for three years prior to her passing.
Martha is survived by one son, Larry Boyer and wife Stephanie, four grandsons; Dennis and wife Cheri, Alan, Don and wife Terri, all of Fairview and Jeff Reeder of Santa Rosa, California. She is also survived by two great-grandsons, four great-granddaughters and two great great-granddaughters, five nephews and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, three step-brothers and three step-sisters, and one granddaughter in law Gretchen Boyer.
Martha will have her final resting place at the Rose Hill Cemetery near South Haven, Kansas.
Memorials can be made to the Fairview First United Methodist Church.
