Al Vale was born December 11, 1913, in Little Current Manitoulin Island Hudson Bay, Canada, and died at his home on Tuesday, September 16, 2008,. Arrangements are with Ladusau - Evans Funeral Home.
Al graduated from high school in Toronto, Canada. During his youth he was a star baseball player and during those years won the All � City Championship. Al was an ardent fan of baseball and a student of the game. He always rooted for the "underdog". His other loves included the game of' Snooker, which he played every day even up to the time of his death. He also was an avid poker player.
In the early 1930s, Al moved to Oklahoma and started working for his relatives in the scrap metal business for a few years in Tulsa. He started his original business in Ponca City called Vale Iron & Metal Company, dealing in non-� ferrous metals. He operated it for a short time before moving his operation to Enid. Al obtained the contract for several years to supply Oklahoma Gas & Electric with materials. He operated the business until a couple of years ago when he retired. Danny Melrose was Al's second in command and after his retirement sold the business to him. Danny was very close to Al.
On October 29, 1950, he married Sylvia Berstein in Toronto, Canada, six weeks after their meeting. Al drove back and forth several times to see her prior to their marriage. It was a whirlwind courtship that "combined love" to make 48 years of wedded bliss. A year after their marriage came their beloved daughter, Arlene. Sylvia preceded him in death on November 11, 1998.
Surviving him are his daughter, Arlene Crowley of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandson, Richard Nash Crowley of Seattle, Washington; grandson, Ethan Crowley of Seattle, Washington; close family friends, Sharon and Danny Melrose of Enid; his close personal friend, Betty Phillips; and a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, and four brothers.
