Barbara Emogene (Huss) Uraneck

Barbara Emogene (Huss) Uraneck
???? ~ April 18, 2016 | Age 88

Barbara Emogene Uraneck, long time Weatherford resident, who could be easily recognized around town wearing one of her many brightly colored berets, passed away after a long decline in health on Monday, April 18, 2016, at the age of 88.

Born Barbara Huss in Michigan, she was an identical twin to Virginia and a younger sister to Marion. As a child of the depression, Barbara was conscious of being thrifty, and she made sure her children learned these same lessons.

Barbara graduated from high school in Michigan, attended Antioch College in Ohio, and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth College in 1949, where she earned a degree in occupational therapy. Later in life, she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse degree and worked in hospitals and nursing homes in Bartlesville, OK. She also worked intermittently as a waitress to help earn extra money. These experiences made her a friend to waitresses and other service workers and she was always sure to leave a good tip.

Barbara married Carl Uraneck, a widower with three children, in 1952, in Borger, Texas. She legally adopted Carl's three young children, Madeline, David and Susan. Eventually she gave birth to two additional children, William and Katherine, making the family a robust seven around the dinner table. After a move to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, as part of Carl's transition within Phillips 66, Barbara and Carl raised their children on a five-acre farm. Dogs, cats, horses, and the occasional chicken shared the farm with the family for over 27 years.

Barbara and Carl followed son Dr. William Uraneck, DDS, and his wife Rebecca to Weatherford, OK, in 1994, to be part of the lives of their only two grandchildren, Rachel and Carol Uraneck. Grandma Uraneck was an advocate of independence through arts and education for her granddaughters. She remained an active part of the community for the remainder of her life. Her last days were spent at Brookdale Assisted Living and Weatherford Living Center.

A Celebration of Life memorial will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14 at the Pioneer Senior Center, 1000 Gartrell Place, Weatherford, OK. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in the name of Barbara Uraneck to the Pioneer Senior Center with instructions to apply donation to the Nutrition Center.
