A memorial service to celebrate the life of Gary Dean Unruh, age 77, of Ringwood, will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 27, 2018, at New Hopedale Mennonite Church, with Rev. James Suderman officiating. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory. Viewing will be Thursday and Friday at the funeral home.
Gary was born December 21, 1940, South of Meno, Oklahoma to Rudolph and Martha (Sawatzky) Unruh, and passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, in Enid.
Gary grew up on the family farm south of Meno, graduated from OBA in 1959, and attended Okmulgee Tech. On June 25, 1961 he married Joan Rudiger at Bergthal Mennonite Church in Pawnee Rock, Kansas. Gary served in the National Guard for over 6 years. He worked as a mechanic and spent many hours working in his shop. Gary is a member of the Masonic Lodge, Lions Club, and is a retired volunteer firefighter. He was also a butcher and loved to smoke meat for community events. Gary loved to visit with people at the coffee shop every morning, and loved seeing and spending time with his 7 grandkids. One of Jesus commandments that Gary never broke was love thy neighbor as yourself.
Gary is survived by his loving wife Joan of the home; son Darren Unruh and his wife Christina, son David Unruh and his wife Tammy, and daughter Deann Light and her husband Wes; 4 cherished granddaughters Lakan, Courtney, Brooklan and Ashlan; and 3 treasured grandsons Colby, Weston, and Ryan; 2 brothers Roger Unruh, and Elroy Unruh; and 2 sisters Karen Tickle and Jenell Reim.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister Marlena Unruh.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Ringwood Fire Department, or Meno Fire Department.
