Jane Edith Underwood

Jane Edith Underwood
January 14, 1922 ~ June 10, 2019

Jane Edith Underwood, daughter of Bert Orland and Clella Hunt Underwood, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2019. Jane was born on January 14, 1922 in Ithaca, NY.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents and younger sisters, Clella (Betty) Underwood, Mary Atkins, Margaret (Peggy) Mathis, all of Blanchard, and Patricia (Ann) Verner of OKC; niece and caregiver, Sonya (Kay) Wellner of OKC.

Jane leaves behind her brother, James Underwood and wife Nancy of Lafayette, LA; nieces, Pamela Smith of Ft. Worth, Barbara Underwood, Cathryn Underwood, Edith Delcambre, all of Lafayette, Elizabeth (Wren) Underwood of Florida, Cindy Poe, Leslie Meigs, and Tammy Muzar, all of Blanchard; and great niece, Christina Sparks of OKC who cared for her in her final years; nephews, James Underwood of Lafayette and Robert Atkins of OKC. Jane is also survived by numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

Jane graduated from Classen High School in 1940 and worked at Tinker reupholstering airplane seats during WWII. Jane moved to Florida in 1946 to care for her Grandmother Underwood and returned in 1951 to Oklahoma to attend business school. Jane served as Secretary and Treasurer of the OKC Chapter BPW Club listing her own interests as: Reading, Gardening, Traveling, Music, and My many cats in their 2005 Directory.

Jane was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church and then attended Dibble Freewill Baptist later in life. Jane retired from Lincoln Life Insurance and moved to Blanchard with three of her sisters and father in the late 70’s. Jane and her sister, Betty, lived most of their lives together, choosing a life of servitude to their family rather than marrying and raising their own children. Jane was an extremely humble woman who spent her life loving God and helping her family.
