George Frederick Ullmann, Lt. Col. USAF, retired, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024, in San Antonio. Interment will follow at a later date at Ft. Sam Houston.
Born on January 5, 1932, in Marietta, he was the youngest son of George and Elise Herzog Ullmann.
He attended the Shady Dale Grade School and was a 1950 graduate of Marietta High School. He then attended Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship and received a Bachelor of Science degree. Following his completion of the USAF Reserve Training Program, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1954. Ullmann's Air Force career was from 1954 to 1975, primarily in Southeast Asia, the Far East and the Pacific. While stationed in Japan, he received two Air Medals for Meritorious Service.
Survivors include his two sons, Ronald Frederick Ullmann and wife Teresa and Randall Mark Ullmann and wife Nancy; four grandchildren, Emily Ullmann, Amanda Ullmann, David Ullmann, and Anna Ullmann; sister, Wilma Easley of Marietta; sister-in-law, Jean Alexander of Kennett, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Joetta Bennett Ullmann, one brother and two sisters.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Love County Military Museum or the Love County Library.
