Donald Ray Tyler, a native of Springhill, Louisiana, passed away on January 30, 2014. He was 69 years old. He is survived by his wife of almost 46 years, Angie Tyler, three sons, Donnie of Mobile, Alabama, Dion of San Antonio, Texas and JD of Kansas City, Kansas and a daughter, Deena Tyler of Mobile, Alabama. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law Shannon, Amy, and Erin Tyler and three grandsons, Aidan, Dash and Carter Tyler. His sister, Jean McKinnis, and her son, Mike McKinnis, also survived him.
Mr. Tyler was born June 7, 1944 in Springhill, Louisiana, and graduated from Springhill High School. He later attended the Louisiana Polytechnic Institute. He received degrees of Bachelor of Science of Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Following Graduation Mr. Tyler joined the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in Mobile, Alabama.
Once Mr. Tyler completed his service with the Coast Guard, Phillips 66 employed him in the Supply and Transportation Department until he retired in 1997. After retiring, he became a licensed realtor and was the Vice-President of the Washington County Rental Association. Mr. Tyler was a member of the Bartlesville First United Methodist Church, the Green Country Lions Association, the American Diabetes Association, and the American Legion Post 105. He was an active volunteer in the Salvation Army, Big Brothers and Big Sisters Program, and the Bartlesville Fly-In. Mr. Tyler also organized the first Easter Egg Hunt for the children of the Oak Park Subdivision and ensured the Easter Egg Hunt continued for over thirty years.
Memorial Services were held at the Oak Park United Methodist Church at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 1, 2014. Funeral Services were held at 3:00pm, Monday, February 3, 2014 in the Bailey Funeral Chapel, Springhill, LA.
