Violet Devene Turner age 90 of Choctaw, formerly of Midwest City, passed away, Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Norman Regional Health Plex. Violet was born November 21, 1927 in Earlsboro, Oklahoma. She was one of eight children born to Nick E. Stephenson and Julia Ann (Wells) Stephenson. Violet grew up a country girl and at a young age learned how to work hard by working in the cotton fields. She attended high school at Yale, Oklahoma and at the age of 16, she left home to find work to help support her family. One of her first jobs was working in a commercial laundry business.
In 1946, Violet met and married John Thomas Turner, a young man who just returned home from WWII. While John continued his career in the military, they lived in Lawton, several years in Germany and later moved to Midwest City. While John was in the military, Violet worked as a homemaker, raising three sons, John, Michael and Jeffery. After moving to MWC, Violet worked many years for Guy James Industries as a professional seamstress. When she retired she later lived in Choctaw and for the past several years she resided at Medical Park West Nursing Home.
Throughout her life, Violet enjoyed sewing, cooking, writing poetry, drawing and spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed.

One sister,
Dorma Lee Russell of Wichita, Kansas;
Six grandchildren, Nine
great-grandchildren,
Several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
