Michael W. Turner of Midwest City earned his angel wings on November 29 at home with his beloved wife and sister by his side. Mike was born in Hackensack, NJ to thrilled parents Jeppie W and Bernice (Riley) Turner. Mike, and later his baby sister Kim, were the center of their parents' universe and the family truly lived for one another.
Being a 'military brat' taught certain character traits that served Mike well in his own noble military career in the USAF for 21 years. Mike's 'retirement' from the Air Force in 1991 was a stepping stone to living his heart's desire as a Police Officer, faithfully serving the City of Del City until the time of his death. He proudly earned the rank of Sergeant and he lived each day with the intent of protecting citizens but also fully mindful of the health and welfare of his fellow officers. Not even death can truly break these bonds of Brotherhood.
Leaving behind to treasure and to live up to his loving example are: of the home: wife Lynette; son Trevor-(recently returned from serving in Iraq as a Navy Medic for 1/8 Alpha), and nephew Chase Cook leaving soon for an exciting life at the University of Oklahoma. Son, Austin, (currently serving in BEE Flight of the USAF at McConnell AFB in Derby KS) with Daughter-in-law Melissa and grandson Rowan. Also, beloved little sister Kim Dye and husband Mike and nieces Emily and Amy of Bluefield, West Virginia. Other family members that will miss his unfailing kindness and moral compass will be Troy, Valarie, and Trey Bell of Moore; Jerry JC Cope, Julie Cook and Marvin Bell of El Reno; Vern, Jordan, and Brett Cook of 29 Palms Calif; Brian and Sandy Cope of Illinois, and too many others to list.
It goes without saying that Officer Jay Hill and many others of the City of Del City's Police Department and SWAT Team members are Blood Brothers and without their Support during the arduous 20 months that Mike fought with grace and determination could not have been possible without their support. God Bless the City of Del City and the wonderful people that work quietly behind the scenes to keep us all safe and be there when one of their own needs them.
In lieu of flowers, Mike asked that you show your love and respect by making donations to the WOUNDED WARRIORS PROJECT which serves the needs of our wounded returning Veterans. Because of them, we are Free. Please consider www.woundedwarriorproject.org which is an Accredited Charity.
