ERROL TURNAGE, 82, of Colorado Springs died July 2, 1992, at a local hospice. He worked at an auto dealership.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Swan-Law
Cascade Chapel, 501 N. Cascade Ave., with the Rev. James Johnston officiating. Cremation is planned. Swan-Law Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mr. Turnage was born Aug. 31, 1909, in Rayville, Mo., to William F. and Elizabeth A. (Cox) Turnage.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blackwell, Okla., and a past member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Lodge and the Kiwanis Club.
He married Mabell S. (Howard) on Oct. 6, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives.
Mr. Turnage also is survived a daughter, Betty A. Ducharme of Houston; two brothers; one sister; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mabel Turnage, former resident of Blackwell, Oklahoma and Colorado Springs, Colorado, died Sunday, September 29, 2002 in Missouri City, Texas at the age of 93. Mabel was admitted to Fort Bend Memorial Hermann Hospital Sunday morning and passed away peacefully that evening.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., October 13, at the burial site in the Hiawatha Cemetery, Hiawatha, Kansas. Rev. Frank Pritz will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Earthman Funeral Directors in Houston, Texas and Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha.
Mabel Susan Turnage was born in Hiawatha, Kansas on September 18, 1909 to Roy and Bertha (Peckinpah) Howard. She grew up in Hiawatha and received her education there.
She married Errol A. Turnage on October 6, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri. They moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma in 1943 where they owned and operated Turnage Tire and Appliance and the Turnage Pontiac-Olds dealership. Mabel worked alongside her husband, keeping the books and managing the appliance business. Despite competition from dealerships in larger cities, she won many awards and vacation trips in recognition of her outstanding sales. She was a remarkable businesswoman who was ahead of her time in juggling motherhood and a career and doing both successfully. When Mabel retired at age 67, she started a new hobby of handpainting fine china and was active for many years in various china painting clubs in Colorado and Texas.
Even though Mabel traveled and lived elsewhere after retiring, she maintained her longtime membership in the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 70 years and the American Business Women's Association for 31 years.
Mabel was widowed in 1992 and was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother. She is survived by one brother, Keith Howard of Blackwell; daughter, Betty A. Ducharme of Missouri City, Texas; grandson, Col. Brett Turnage Williams, currently stationed at Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi Arabia, his wife, Lt. Col. Marianne Williams, Langley AFB, Virginia, their children, Mikela and Sean Michael; granddaughter, Beth Anne Williams, Denver, Colorado; granddaughter, Kelly L. Williams, Colorado Springs, Colorado, along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Memorials may be made in her name to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 388 (First & Bridge), Blackwell, OK 74631.
