Veronica Townsend-Dorton

April 9, 1917 ~ August 10, 2004

Veronica Townsend-Dorton was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma on April 9, 1917. She was the youngest of nine which have all preceded her in death. She moved to Bakersfield at age 14 and graduated from Kern Union High School in 1946. She also attended classes at Kern County Jr. College. She later married James Dorton who passed away in 1993.

She leaves behind her only child, Cindy Mitchell; son-in-law, Steve Mitchell and granddaughter, Tara Mitchell; nephews, Bill and Vince Townsend who gave years of endless hours in help care for her. A cherished brother-in-law, Earl Senter; sister-in-law, Jane Townsend; nieces, Irene Watkins, Vicki Henston, Sharon Fisher, Carolyn Howard and nephews, Mack Townsend and Bobbie Townsend.

Veronica lived in San Mateo for 14 years and retired as the manager of a local hotel, The Firestone Lodge.

Mother is finally free from many years of suffering from Alzheimer's.

Graveside services will be Saturday, August 14, 10:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd.
