Dr. Martin Alan Tippie, MD, age 71, expired peacefully at his home on October 8, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born July 24, 1945 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin & Lucile Tippie.
Marty graduated from College High in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He then graduated from OSU & OU Medical School. His internship was at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, KS.
Dr. Tippie served at Fort Bragg, N.C. in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper from 1972-1975.
Marty was Clinical Director of the Vernon Alcohol & Drug Rehab Center, Vernon, Texas.
Dr. Tippie was a Board Certified Family Practice Physician in Windsor, N.C. for 5 years. He continued services for 31 years at the University of Oklahoma as Athletic Physician (Team Doctor) and all other sports at O.U. He was Chief of Staff at the University of Oklahoma Student Health Center.
Dr. Tippie organized and volunteered at free clinics in Fayetteville, NC and Health for Friends in Norman, OK.
He served on committees & boards including the Oklahoma Boxing Commission, Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensing for Athletic Trainers, Institutional Boards at OU & University of North Carolina at Wilmington, NC. He was inducted into Trainers Hall of Fame.
Marty was married 41 years to Gayle Hammonds Tippie from 1975 to present.
Marty is survived by his wife Gayle, of the home; daughter Michelle Tippie Rogers & husband Paul Rogers of Tulsa, OK; Stepsons, Allen Williams & wife Tiffany of Noble, and Andrew Williams of Norman; Sister, Karen Tippie Susner & husband, Nickolas Susner of California; & brother, Ron Parrott & wife Pamela of Fresno, California; 6 grandchildren; one nephew & one niece; cousins & many friends.
Services will be held Thursday, October 13, 2016, at 3:00 p.m. in the Sandy Bell Gallery at Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Arts, 555 Elm Avenue on the SE corner of Boyd Street & Elm.
