Veronica Gentry "Ronnie" Thurman was born January 18, 1933 in Montgomery, Alabama to Violet Magdalene (Berry) and Bernard Francis Jablonsky. She passed away June 6, 2018 in her home at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 4 months and 19 days.
Ronnie's father was killed in a plane crash in 1935 and her mother later married Leo Swaner. While he served in the U.S. Army they lived in the Panama Canal and Hawaii. After Mr. Swaner was killed in a plane crash in 1945; she and her mother moved to Sayre to be near family. Ronnie graduated from Sayre High School in 1951 where she was active in athletics and band.
She married Ervin Thurman on December 26, 1950 in Sayre, Oklahoma and they made their home on the farm in the New Liberty community. They remained there on the farm where they operated a dairy while raising cotton, wheat and cattle for a number of years. Ronnie and Ervin celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary before he passed away in 2017.
Ronnie was a member of the Sayre Church of Christ where she was active as a Bible school teacher and singing for funerals.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 1 daughter, Rene' Thurman.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Ronita Cox and husband, Greg, Cordell, OK, Cindy Vignal and husband, Gary of Sayre, OK; 6 grandchildren, Chelodi Sanford, Deidra Dacus and husband, Caleb, Kade Sanford and wife, Megan, Cody Vignal and wife, Stephanie, Chance Vignal, McKenna Renna and husband, Mike; 8 great grandchildren, Haley, Levi, Luke, Rachel, Rhett, Crew, Willow and Lyla; 1 sister, Wanda Lee Provins and husband, Dwain, Traverse City, MI and a host of other relatives and friends.
