Luther Ervin Thurman
November 04, 1930 ~ July 06, 2017

Ervin Thurman was born November 4, 1930 west of Sayre, Oklahoma on the family farm to Gertrude Maude and Guy Chester Thurman. He passed away July 6, 2017 at his home on the same farm at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 2 days.

Ervin attended school at Bulo and then New Liberty where he graduated from high school in 1948. Ervin excelled in sports, especially basketball and track. After graduation he continued his education at Sayre Junior college and also worked with his father on the farm and they operated a dairy for many years. He was married to Veronica Jablonsky Thurman at his parent's house on the day after Christmas on December 26, 1950. Ervin continued to farm with his father until moving to Rawlings, Wyoming where he worked for the railroad. When he later returned to Sayre, he began farming again and also worked for the Rock Island Railroad. One of his proudest accomplishments was building a barn with a basketball court. His vision was instrumental in producing 2 State Championship teams for Sayre School. Ervin loved his family and especially adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and looked forward to spending time with them. He worked hard so that he could go play hard with them. After finishing harvest, family trips to Colorado were a special time for him. After retiring, he spent time with Ronnie at their home watching John Wayne movies and visiting with children, grandchildren and great grandson.

Ervin was man of God and lifelong member of the Sayre Church of Christ where he served as an elder for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Rene' Thurman.

He is survived by his wife, Ronnie, of the home; 2 daughters, Ronita Cox and husband, Greg, of Cordell, OK, and Cindy Vignal and husband, Gary, Sayre, OK; 6 grandchildren, Chelodi Sanford, Deidra Dacus and husband, Caleb, Kade Sanford and wife, Megan, Cody Vignal and wife, Stephanie, Chance Vignal, McKenna Renna and husband, Mike, 8 great grandchildren, Haley, Levi, Luke, Rachel, Rhett, Crew, Willow and Lyla, 1 brother, Gene Thurman and wife, Jan, Oklahoma City, OK, a very special uncle, Clem Thurman, a very special cousin, Harold Thurman, and a host of other relatives, and friends.
