Edna Jean Thrift age 80, of Norman, OK passed away April 3, 2016, in Blanchard while visiting her friend.
She was born May 31, 1935 in Gilmer, TX, the 2nd of 3 children born to Cecil Barto Drake and Edna Pearl (Jones) Drake. Jean was raised in Texas and attended East Mountain Schools. On January 3, 1952, she married her best friend and the love of her life, William Clifford Thrift. They made their home in Dallas for a time and later in California for a few years. They returned to Oklahoma and lived in both Moore and Newalla, before settling in Purcell in 1971. Together they raised 4 children, sons, David and Cliff and daughters, Leah and Debbie. During the 1970's and into the 80s, they owned and operated Thrift and Jones Escort Service, transporting wide loads wherever needed. Jean worked in the family business all the while caring and providing for her children and maintaining the home. When not working, her favorite hobbies included crocheting and playing bingo, and she never missed an opportunity to go dancing with her husband. Later on, her world became her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed!
She was preceded in death by: Her husband, Clifford Thrift; Her son, David Thrift; Sister, Dorothy Chapman and Brother, Jimmy Drake.
Jean leaves behind: Her son, Cliff Thrift and wife Sue of Norman; Daughters, Leah Bolton of OKC and Debbie and Wendy Jones of Harrah; Sister-in-law, Barbara Drake of Tulsa; 8 grandchildren, Curtis Box, Dina Scheirman, Greg Thrift, Casey Thrift, Jason Jones, Melissa Thrift, David Jones and Kari Cunningham; 18 great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
