Dale L. Thornton

June 25, 1929 ~ Sept 3, 2009

Dale L. Thornton, 80, of Amarillo died Thursday, Sept 3, 2009.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 in Polk Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lane Boyd, pastor, the Rev. Marty Hammick, associated pastor, and the Rev. Kevin Deckard, associate pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Thornton was born June 25, 1929 in Reydon, Oklahoma.

He went to school in Reydon and finished high school in May 1948 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma.

He graduated from Southwestern State College in May 1952 in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

He served in the Army from November 1952 through October 1954 as transportation supply specialist, stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska.

He married Margaret Cassel on December 7, 1956, in Dumas, Texas.

He was employed as an accountant at American Zinc Company of Illinois in Dumas, by Bell Helicopter Company in Amarillo from 1968-1978, and then with Pantex until 1990.

Mr. Thornton was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church.

He was active in Amarillo Senior Citizens Association and served as president from 1998-2002. He also volunteered in the Volunteer Income Tax Association program.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Thornton of Amarillo; two sons, Robert Thornon at Taos, New Mexico; and Ranger Thornton of Amarillo; a daughter, Renea Curry and husband Mike of Stinnett; and three grandsons, Clayo Curry, Calvin Curry and Carson Curry.

The family suggests memorials be to Building Fund, Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 S. Polk St., Amarillo, Texas 79101.
