Daniel Thorne was born May 15, 1952, in Enid, Oklahoma. He passed away February 3, 2021, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was the son of Leonard and Dorothy (Hanson) Thorne, formally of Hunter, Oklahoma. He married Peggy Ann Bittle on November 29, 1975, in Enid, OK.
Dan was known for his intellect and being a hard worker. He attended Hunter Public Schools and graduated in 1970 as salutatorian of his class. From Oklahoma State University, he earned a BS and MS in accounting in 1974 and 1975, respectively. In 1975, he passed all portions of the notoriously difficult CPA exam the first time. Dan worked as a CPA for 15 years in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He continued as the Vice President of Finance and Treasurer for Pacific Enterprises for another two years in Dallas, Texas, but he wanted to move back to Oklahoma to live a less hectic life, and in 1990, he and his family moved west of Springer, Oklahoma.
He loved farming and cattle. Since childhood, he had a connection with animals and the natural world; he shared a special bond with his horse and dogs. He was also skilled in the trades of welding, carpentry, and auto mechanics. Dan engineered inventive and homemade solutions to problems on his farm; he had a latent gift with the written word and kept journals and records of his experiences. He enjoyed sharing time and his love of nature with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Peggy (Bittle) Thorne of the home in Woodford, Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law, Amy Thorne and Jaime Peña of Ardmore, Oklahoma; son and daughter-in-law, Blake and Tiffany Thorne of Marlow, Oklahoma; granddaughters Paisley and Paxton Thorne of Marlow, Oklahoma; sister Carolyn Simon of Enid, Oklahoma; and brother and sister-in-law, David and Susan Thorne of Stillwater, Oklahoma; as well as many nieces and nephews.
No services are scheduled due to the pandemic. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Woodford Volunteer Fire Department in Springer, Oklahoma 73548.
