Harvey Bert Thompson, 71, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 24, 2012 in Sagle, Idaho. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint with Pastor David Hess officiating.
Harvey was born on December 13, 1940 in Clayton, Oklahoma to Preston and Lucille (Steele) Thompson. Harvey moved to Enid, Oklahoma and lived there until joining the Air Force in 1958. He married Carolyn L. Webb in 1961.
During Harvey’s twenty year military police career he served in various overseas assignments, including Vietnam, Greenland and Japan. After his retirement from the Air Force he continued his career in law enforcement with Crowley and Bonner County Sheriff’s department. He made his way up through the ranks to Lt. Detective before retiring a second time in 2005.
After the second retirement he had time to pursue his dreams of RV-ing and taking long motorcycle rides. He and Carolyn spent the next five winters in sunny Florida where they were closer to their son. Harvey rediscovered his love of wood working, just plain relaxing and being with his life long love, Carolyn. His last two great motorcycle rides were with Carolyn, their daughter and son-in-law through Glacier National Park and Sturgis, South Dakota.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 51 years; son, Preston Joe Thompson of Rockledge, Florida; daughter Sherry and son-in-law Jeff Hone of Grand Junction, Colorado, granddaughters; Natasha, Shalene, Mikaela, Becca and Savannah, great granddaughters; Alyssa, Britli and Jessalyn, brother George of Enid, Oklahoma, sisters Ellen and husband Bernard Hodge of Durant, Oklahoma and Sharon K. Humes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; the Webb family and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and long time friend, Bill Houston and family.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, brother W. Preston, sisters, Paula Ash and Martha Thompson.
