Karen Rochelle Thomas of Tulsa passed away after a brief illness on Friday, January 26, 2018 in Fort Smith, AR. She was 56. Karen was born on February 2, 1961 in Pittsburg, KS to Jimmie and Amelia (Christy) Steen. Karen was raised in Pittsburg and later moved to Olathe, KS. From there she moved to Tulsa where she worked for the John Zink Company for over twenty years. The last few years she had been working at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa in the food and beverage department. She was a hard and dependable worker who everyone liked.
Karen was known as a selfless person, often taking care of her family and friends first. She donated her time to different organizations over the years, especially those dealing with children. Karen had an eclectic taste in music and attended many concerts over the years. She was a lover of animals but cats held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed playing golf, following sports, Nascar, and spending time with friends and family.
Karen is survived by her son Matthew Musser of Tulsa; her parents Jimmie and Amelia Steen of Stigler; her brother Stanley Steen of Stigler; her aunts Aglae Lawson and husband Marvin of??Eucha and Sandra Leonard of Pittsburg, KS; and a host of cousins, family and friends. Karen was preceded in death by her grandparents Adam and Eliza Christy and Bunk and Ethel Steen; her aunts Launa Medlock, Delores Holloway, and Sondra Clark; her uncles Adam "Sonny" Christy, Haskell Christy, Gilmore Christy and Wayne Steen; and her cousin Nancy Holloway.
A Memorial Service will be held in Karen's honor at 11:00 a.m., Friday,
February 9, 2018 at Will Rogers United Methodist Church, 1138 S Yale, Tulsa,
OK with Pastor Brian Mangan officiating. Services are under the direction of
