Charles Wayne Thom

Charles Wayne Thom
January 29, 1925 ~ August 19, 2018

Charles Wayne Thom, 93, of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, died Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital. 

He was born on January 29, 1925, in Medicine Lodge to Hugo and Stella (Moomau) Thom. Wayne graduated in 1943 from Isabel High School.

Wayne was very proud of his military service, serving in World War II with the United States Army Regiment 19 the 24th Infantry in the Philippines from 1944 to 1945. Wayne was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war he began farming and ranching in the Isabel and Lake City area and was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Nashville, Kansas. He was a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge. 

On November 14, 1948, he married Velma Mae Mease and began 70 years of blessed marriage. While providing for his family, Wayne was active in his community as an elder at St. John Lutheran Church, the Valley Township Board treasurer, the Cattleman's Association, and the Isabel Co-Op Board.

Surviving are his wife, Velma, of Medicine Lodge; his sister, Eleanor Banks, of Pratt, Kansas; three sons, Matt Thom of Medicine Lodge, Monte (Toni) Thom of Medicine Lodge, and Clark (Brandi) Thom of Isabel; his grandchildren, Micah (Andy) Waggoner of Isabel, Riley Wayne Thom of Medicine Lodge, Carrington Jo Thom of Wichita, Kansas, Micah John Polson of Pratt, Kansas, Madison Polson of Wichita, Morgan Polson of Kiowa, Kristine Landwehr of Medicine Lodge, Herbie (Laura) Landwehr of Sharon, Kansas, and Heath Landwehr of Medicine Lodge; his great-grandchildren, Braylee and Blaine Waggoner of Isabel and Jocelyn Jones of Medicine Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Randy Scott.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, from noon until 8 p.m., with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Larrison Funeral Home, 120 E. Lincoln, Medicine Lodge. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge, with Pastor Dennis Fangmeyer and Pastor Rocky Mease officiating.

Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Nashville, Kansas, with military honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. 

A reception with the family will be held at the St. John Reception Hall following the burial. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, St. John Lutheran Church or the Isabel American Legion in care of the funeral home.
