Thies, David Eugene, 64, of Midwest City died on June 15, 2010. He was born on September 26, 1945 in Chicago, IL to Robert and Dorothy Thies. Dave attended schools in Grand Rapids, MI until the time he graduated from Newtown High School in New York City. He earned his B.A at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN; Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry at Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, IL.
He was ordained in the Lutheran Church in America on May 14, 1971. Dave served parishes near McPherson, KS (New Gottland Lutheran); in Tribune, Weskan, Sharon Springs, and Page City, KS (Quad Parish of Western Kansas); Salina, KS (St. John Lutheran Church); and Midwest City, OK (St. Mark Lutheran Church). He retired from active ministry in 2001 and continued to serve as interim pastor in Yukon, OK (Resurrection Lutheran), Norman, OK (University Lutheran); and Stillwater, OK (Salem Lutheran). He was currently a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Edmond, OK.
David was preceded in death by his mother and father; 2 brothers, Bob and Don.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn; daughters, Heather of Winter Garden, FL; Jenny and husband Tim Geib of Edmond, OK; Molly and husband Paul Kyler of Ponca City, OK; grandchildren, Mallory and Bo Kyler and Maxwell and Nolan Geib; and many other family members, colleagues and friends.
The Memorial Service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 25 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 15400 N. Western, Edmond, OK.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to one of the following: YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, Midwest City branch or through the Arkansas-Oklahoma Synod of the ELCA for either the Synod Seminary Scholarship Fund or for the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.
