Bonnie Lee Thaxton, 97, died peacefully at her home on May 3, 2021. Her Granddaughter Melissa Buck Gillman was by her side.
Bonnie was born on July 6, 1923, in Dewey, Oklahoma, to Otis and Minnie (Wilson) Thaxton. The majority of her life was spent in the Bartlesville area. She married Henry L. Buck of Nowata. They had two children Douglas “Bucky” Buck and Karen Buck Cummings.
Bonnie was always a hard worker. Although she had a variety of jobs in her lifetime, she ultimately found her calling as a home health aide. Later, she joined the Environmental Service Department at Jane Phillips Hospital in Bartlesville, where she retired after twenty years of service.
Bonnie lived life to the fullest. She loved to be fishing at her special
fishing spot or attending a pow-wow. Everyone knew that on games days, she
would be in front of the TV watching either OU Football or OU Basketball.
Bonnie cherished and honored her Native American Heritage. She was an active
member of the Delaware Tribe and belonged to both the Delaware War Mothers
and the Bartlesville Indian Women’s Club. Bonnie was a member of the Rose
Hill Baptist Church in Dewey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two children Bucky and Karen; sister Francis Thaxton Hudson; and brothers Dempsey and Benjamin “Tokey” Thaxton.
Survivors include: Son-in-Law Dennis Cummings, Daughter-in-Law Sandy Buck, Daughter-in-Law Barbara Kerr, Seven grandchildren Melissa Buck Gillman (Jimmy), Denise Cummings, Kelly (Kate) Cummings, Dana (Brandon) Shipley, Tyler Ray, Marlo Alexander (Tommy) and Kellie Cox (Bobby); Sixteen great grandchildren; Many special nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. To all she was known as Aunt Bonnie or Grandma Bonnie.
Bonnie will long be remembered for her keen sense of wit and humor. No matter what the situation, she could always bring a smile to your face and put joy in your heart.
A Traditional Delaware Wake was held at Stumpff Funeral Home and Crematory in Bartlesville. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at this same location. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
