Wilmer Gene "Teak" Teakell

Wilmer Gene Teakell was born March 2, 1928 in Gould, Oklahoma to William Leonard Cora Etta Teakell. He passed away June 16, 2014 at his home in Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 14 days.

Wilmer was affectionately known as "Teak" by family and friends. He graduated as Valedictorian of his class from New Liberty High School in 1945. After graduation, he was married to LeuElla Robison and from this union four children were born. Teak was married to Ruby Burton on August 25, 1967 and they made their home in Sayre for the next 47 years. He was employed with Northfork Electric for 42 and a half years before he retired in 1990. After retirement, Teak and Ruby enjoyed taking trips, camping, fishing and working in his yard until his health would no longer allow him. He loved being around his family and they had recently surprised him with a bib celebration on his 86th birthday. The Sayre Home Health nurses held a special place in his heart and he loved cutting up with them when they came to visit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Lenora Orgain and Wanda Lee Teakell and a granddaughter, Connie Stowers.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of the home; 6 children, Yanina Mullins and husband, Roger, of Oakwood, OK, Michael Teakell and wife, Nelda, of Youngstown, LA, Tammy Read and husband, Kenneth, of Sweetwater, OK, Chesta Bohannon of Sayre, OK, Charles Bilbrey and wife, Karletta, of Sayre, OK, Ronnie Bilbrey and wife, Tonya, of Pawhuska, OK; 2 brothers, Wayne Teakell of Cedar Rapids, IA and Rusty Teakell of Broken Arrow, OK; 2 sisters, Ida Belle Crown of Chouteau, OK and Violet June Grubb of Round Rock, TX; 17 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law and husband Charlotte and Paul Neece of Sayre, OK; a very special niece, Jennifer, of Oklahoma City, OK and a brother-in-law, Randell Burton and wife, Shirley, of Willow, OK; and a host of other relatives and friends. A full obituary will be published when available.

Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life for Teak at the Sayre Senior Citizens Center on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 from 3 - 5 PM.
