Mr. Gene Ray Taylor, 39, resident of Wann Oklahoma lost his battle to cancer on Sunday afternoon, March 23, 2014, in the family home.
Funeral services will be held for Mr. Gene Ray Taylor at 2 P.M. on Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Wann Community Center.
A memorial has been established and those who wish to make a contribution in memory of Gene may do so to; American Cancer Society, 4110 South 100th East Ave., Suite 100, Tulsa, Oklahoma 74146.
Gene Taylor was born in Fort Riley, Kansas on March 30, 1974 to John Taylor and Susan Hayden. Gene lived in numerous places before residing in Wann, Oklahoma in 1985 at the age of eleven where he attended Wann High School. Gene graduated with the Class of 1992 at Oklahoma Union High School in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma. Following high school Gene worked in the oilfield and also for Taylor Crane and Rigging. He was later employed as a welder and pipefitter in numerous states. All of these jobs provided opportunities for Gene to travel and see the U.S., which he loved to do. He was to sum up his employment at Zachery spending most of his time at Phillip 66 Research Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Even though he loved to travel Gene always came back to Wann to see his friends and family where he married Kristi Rizer on May 30, 1998. Gene lived life to the fullest spending time with his daughter Laray and other family members and friends. He spent hours fishing and hunting anything and everything that he could. He was not happy unless he was outside doing something with family and friends. Anyone that knew Gene knew that he was as ornery as they came. He could out fish, out hunt, and out shoot anyone and did not mind telling you so. This all changed when he met his new found love Julie Jackson and he chose to give up the fishing championship title to her. There could not have been a better son, father and friend.
Gene is survived by his father, John Taylor and wife Judy of Iola, KS., his mother Susan Hayden and husband Richard, his daughter Laray Taylor of Nowata, OK., his half-sister Jessica Baker of Independence KS., and other family members and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his infant daughter Laura Taylor., Maternal Grandmother Eileen Gray, and Paternal Grandparents Clyde and Nadeen Taylor.
