Jamal Jim Tayebi passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022, in Bartlesville, OK. Jamal was born June 22, 1935, in Tehran, Iran, the son of Abolgasem Tayebi and Nayereh Jahansusi.
Jamal grew up in Iran and moved to Oklahoma in the late 1950’s where he attended the University of Tulsa and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked as a chemical engineer at 18 years at NIOC Abadan Refinery in Iran, 4 years at Applied Automation in Bartlesville, and 20 years at Sinclair Refinery in Tulsa. Jamal married the love of his life Delberta Jean Cox on July 22, 1960, in Miami, OK and they made their home in Tulsa, OK, Abadan, Iran, for sixteen years, and Bartlesville, OK for 52 years.
Jamal enjoyed swimming and was a master swimmer. He was a past member of the Elks Club, a twenty-year precinct official for the Washington County Election Board, he was a Volunteer Coordinator for OK-Mozart, and he volunteered at the Pilot’s Club of Dewey craft fairs.
Jamal is survived by his wife Delberta Jean Tayebi of Bartlesville, OK; son retired MSgt Hamid Jim Tayebi and his wife Sharon of Navarre, FL; daughter Haleh Liittjohann and her husband Mike of The Woodlands, TX; four grandchildren Matthew Tayebi and his wife Christy, Marshall Tayebi, Alex Tayebi, and Martin Liittjohann; three nephews Mohammad Gharavi, Abdee Gharavi and his wife Sheida, Ali Reza Gharavi, two nieces Maryam Omid and Mina Khoie-Fard; two great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Abolgasem and Nayereh; sisters Jamileh Gharavi, Shamsi Khoie -Fard, and Fakhri Omid; and a nephew Reza Omid.
In lieu of flowers the family recommends making memorial donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The Salvation Army, or a charity of your choice.
A public viewing will be held 9:00am to 5:00pm, Wednesday, August 31, and Thursday, September 1, from 9:00am until 7:00 pm, with family present on Thursday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home Chapel, 710 S. Dewey Ave., Bartlesville, OK. Funeral Services will be held Friday, September 2, at 2:00 pm in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home Chapel.
