Marjorie “Jeannette” (Mills) Tanner, treasured mother to Mathew Dwayne Tanner, passed away in an Oklahoma City, Oklahoma hospital surrounded by family on June 6, 2024 at the age of 54 years.
She was born in Faulkton, South Dakota on August 30, 1969 to Robert M. Mills and Martha Aline (Neugent) Stolfa. She was the first of three daughters born to Robert and Martha. When Jeannette was a young girl, they relocated to Durant, Oklahoma. She cherished memories of her early years spent with her parents and extended family while growing up around her grandparents’ farm. She built a special relationship with her aunt, Mollie Jeannette (Mills) Effland, who was a mentor to Jeannette throughout much of her life. Jeannette graduated from Purcell High School in 1987. She pursued a career in cosmetology and eventually set up her own salon in her home in Norman, Oklahoma. In Norman, she met and married Ted Tanner. Their son, Mathew, was born on September 22, 1996.
Jeannette loved beach life and spent many years residing in the Gulf Coast town of Rockport, Texas. In Rockport, she found a close-knit community of friends that shared her love for the ocean and art. She built a cleaning business in Rockport and spent her free time working and volunteering at a local art gallery. She was passionate about art and enjoyed immersing herself in Rockport’s art community. In Jeannette’s final years, she returned to her late grandparents’ farm in Durant before eventually residing near her family in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was a proud mom, grandma and aunt. Despite her failing health in her later years, she generously gave her energy to bring smiles to the kiddos she loved. She lived life with spontaneity and an adventurous spirit. She was quick to make friends and build relationships on her life’s journey.
She is survived by her son, Mathew (Teshena), grandson, Maxton, and step-granddaughters, Isabella and A’maya of Ardmore, Oklahoma; her mother, Martha and stepfather, John of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her father, Robert and stepmother, Cindy of Durant, Oklahoma; her sisters, Paige (Dale) and Robin (Erik), both of Edmond, Oklahoma.
