BIG SPRING ~ Esthma Alderson Talley was born to Lucien H. and Sue Alderson in Anadarko, Okla., on Dec. 8, 1908. After a long illness, she died on Aug. 5, 1999, at 90 years of age.
Esthma attended the public schools in Electra and the College of Industrial Arts (Texas Women's University) in Denton.
On Oct. 20, 1927, she married high school sweetheart L. Adams Talley.
Following their marriage, Esthma and Adams moved to Big Spring. With Adams' father H. L. Talley and his brother Louis G. Talley, they opened the Crescent Drug Store in the new Crawford Hotel in November 1927.
Upon the death of Adams' father several years later, the drug store was sold.
Esthma and Adams moved to Odessa in 1939. In Odessa, Esthma worked for Rhodes and Key Insurance Agency and then the Odessa American newspaper. Adams was a bookkeeper for the L. H. Drug Store.
In 1944, they established an accounting firm, which they successfully managed until their retirement in 1978.
Esthma was involved in the Parent Teachers Association in the Odessa schools, which her children attended, and was active in the Odessa High School Band Boosters.
She was also a supporter of the Odessa Symphony Orchestra. Professionally, she belonged to the American Business Women's Association.
Both Adams and Esthma were active members of the First United Methodist Church in Odessa, where she participated and held offices in the United Methodist Women.
Upon their retirement, Esthma and Adams moved to Lago Vista.
Both were members of a number of organizations and offered their services to the community.
They were active in the Rolling Hills Community Church.
In 1989, they relocated to Austin so that Esthma could receive care for ongoing complications due to a stroke in 1985.
At that time, they became members of the University United Methodist Church.
Esthma was a loving, compassionate and giving person. She was a devoted wife and mother balancing her time among her family, her church, her profession, and her social activities.
Even though she could not speak after her stroke, she expressed love to her family and showed appreciation to her caretakers and their kind attention. Her witness of love and caring the others will be her legacy to generations to come.
Esthma was preceded in death by her husband, Lucien H. Adams; sister, Mary Jo M. Manahan Stirrat; and her infant son.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwen, and son~in~law, James Carter of Austin; son, Robert and daughter~in~law, Evelyn Talley of Kilgore; brother, J. C. Alderson and wife Vivien of Moriarty, N.M.; sister, Margurette Woolen of Big Spring; and sister~in~law, Helen Talley of Easley, S.C.; three grandsons, Keith Carter and wife, Maureen, of Austin, John Mark Carter and wife, Tracyanne, of Hewitt and Stephen Carter and wife, Susan, of Austin; and one granddaughter, Tamara and husband Earl Presley of Burkburnett; six great grandsons; and two great granddaughters. She also is survived by a number of cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff and to volunteers of both Hospice Austin and Christopher House, as well as to the Senior Ministries of University United Methodist Church for their care and concern.

All Faiths Funeral Service~North Chapel in Austin is in charge of the graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Olive Cemetery in Big Spring with the Rev. James E. Carter, son~in~law, officiating.
