Our mother, granny, and friend, Zettie “Mae” (Smith) Swindle, left us for her heavenly home on February 4, 2017 in McAlester at the age of 93.
One of eleven children, Mae was born to Edgar Augusta and Dicie Jane (Meeks) Smith on August 23, 1923 in Ripley, Mississippi.
She married Dewey Swindle and was a homemaker.
Mae loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She loved her family and church family and her greatest joy was when they would visit her. She was grateful for the staff of Mitchell Manor and had pet names for each of them.
Mae especially enjoyed the visits from the sister missionaries when they would sing to her. She was a member of the McAlester Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Mae is survived by her children: Linda Cooley of Woodland Park, Colorado, Sam Swindle of Lakeland, Florida, Margie Walker of Lakeland, Florida, Dot Ward and husband, Jack of Lincoln, Nebraska; son-in-law: Dale Price of McAlester.
Also, grandchildren: Chris Cooley and wife, Christie; Jason Cooley, Veronica Osburn, Stevan Walker and wife, Amanda, David Walker, Rachelle Creamer and husband, Mike, Richard Griffis, Barbara Nahinu, Joshua Price and wife, Elizabeth, Dillion Price, Nicole Boyer and husband, Ty; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a beloved caregiver: Debbie Goforth; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Mae was preceded in death by her parents: Edgar and Dicie (Meeks) Smith; her husband: Dewey Swindle on January 9, 1991; daughter: Shirley Price; grandson: James “Jay” Swindle; great-great-grandson: Mikael Lee Griffis; and Mae's brothers and sisters.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Bishop Funeral Service.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in McAlester, officiated by Bishop Spencer Hovey. Burial will be Friday at the Overton Hill Cemetery in Walnut, Mississippi.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Jack Locke and her grandsons.
The family requests that any floral arrangements be sent to Corinthian Funeral Home at Corinth, Mississippi.
Arrangements are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.
