Ron Sweeten Jr.

Ron Sweeten Jr.
May 14, 1958 ~ January 3, 2023

Ron Sweeten, 64, of Bartlesville, died Tuesday, January 3, 2023, in Bartlesville.

Ron was born the son of Ronald Robert Sr. and Elizabeth Beatrice (Drake) Sweeten on May 14, 1958, in Everett, Washington. He was raised in and around the Seattle, Tacoma, and Olympia areas.

Ron joined the US Air Force and was a Security Specialist at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. Following boot camp, he was assigned to Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Washington.

He held many jobs early in his life. He lied about his age to work at McDonalds Restaurant, where he became a Shift Manager. He was a Thurston County Reserve Deputy Sheriff in Washington. He also worked for Sweeten's Custom Meats where he would go to various farms and process their animals for butchering. He was a welder for Halliburton, in Coffeyville, and then became a Police Officer in Caney Kansas at age 19. The police chief had to buy his bullets and older officers had to accompany him on bar checks because he was underage. He worked for the Nowata Police Department and eventually the Bartlesville Police Dept in 1985. He was a member of the Special Operations Team, a field training officer, a CLEET certified instructor. a firearms instructor, and a training, Sergeant. He was named Officer of the Year in both 2001 and 2006.

Ron wasn’t one to sit and twiddle his thumbs - after all he “only” worked 40 hours at his first job and that left him time to pursue other interests. During the flood of 1986, he became interested in EMS, and it was at the Bartlesville Ambulance service that he met his future wife, Donna. Ron and Donna were married on August 1, 1988 and enjoyed 34 years of loving marriage. He became a Paramedic at Bartlesville Ambulance Service and enjoyed working for Mercy EMS. Ron also became a First Aid and CPR instructor, an Emergency Vehicle Operation Course instructor, and an EMS instructor.

Ron was kind and had a big heart, he would buy someone dinner or just a cup of coffee. He would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. There was nothing he loved more, than to make someone smile, or brighten someone’s day. The impact of his kindness, or intervention whether as a police officer or a paramedic is still felt today. The family has been flooded with stories of people whose lives were changed because of him. Some say he helped turn their life around, get off drugs or alcohol, stay in school, further their education; or they just remember him being very kind and compassionate.

Both Ron and Donna loved to travel. They enjoy being consultants for Scentsy and earned many trips all over the world. Some of their most memorable trips included cruises, Europe, New York City, New Orleans, and Disney. They loved taking their kids and grandkids to Branson, and Disney.

Ron is survived by his loving wife Donna, his children, Angie Sweeten, Crystal & Mark Edens, April & Jeff Wilson, Ron Sweeten III and Melissa Sweeten & Michael; Their grandchildren, James, Gloria, Joseph, Brittany, Lance, Tyler & Shania (& great granddaughter due in April), Tyson, Bella, Easton, Lia, Starr and Makenzi; His father Ron & Barbara Sweeten Sr. His siblings Dianna Sweeten, Linda & Jim Bradshaw, Lori Moynihan, Oakette Tatum and Michael Stevens; Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles, as well as his good friends, his chosen family, and everyone else who calls him Uncle Ron, Papa, or Grandpa. He is preceded in death by his beautiful mother Beatrice “Betty” Stevens, and his sister Debbie Sweeten.
