Donna Kay Swaim, 77, of Okeene passed away November 26, 2021, at her home in the loving care of her husband. Viewing will take place at Wilkinson Mortuary on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 9 to 8p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday December 1, 2021, at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Okeene with the Pastor Gaylon Cox officiating.
Donna was born June 10, 1944, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Mr. and Mrs. Glenn (Alma) Jones. She graduated from Lindsay High School in 1962 and Enid General School of Nursing in 1965. While in nursing school, Donna met the love her life, Ted Swaim, and they were married November 12, 1966, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Enid, Ok. She and Ted made their home in Fairview, where she was employed as a nurse, and he was a laboratory/radiology technician at Fairview Hospital. They welcomed their son Brandon in 1972 and then soon built a home on Ted's family farm in Okeene, where they would live for 46 years.
Through the years, Donna found great joy as a wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend. She and Ted were blessed to celebrate 55 years of marriage and they enjoyed working together in the hospitals, on the farm, raising their son, travelling thru out the United States and Alaska, and enjoying time spent as a family. Donna treasured her grandchildren, Daxton and Destry, and enjoyed hours spent playing with them, teaching them to cook and was their biggest fan in all their activities- music programs, soccer matches, basketball, football, and baseball games. Donna enjoyed cooking for family and friends and her German chocolate cake, angel food cake, coconut cream pie, and blackberry cobbler were loved by all.
She felt blessed to worked as a nurse for 45+ years including 10 years at Fairview Hospital, 25 years at Okeene Hospital and 10+ years at Blaine County Health Department in Watonga. Her absolute devotion to her patients and their families was evident in the loving care she provided. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Okeene for 43 years where she enjoyed singing in the choir, serving on committees, and volunteering in the JAM Children’s program and Vacation Bible School,
Donna was preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Alma Jones, her brother Sam Jones, her stepfather Roden Parker, and her sister Rosie Cosby. She is survived by her husband, Ted Swaim; her son, Brandon and his wife, Robin; her grandsons Daxton and Destry, of Okeene, OK; her sisters Shari Waite, of Mustang, OK, and Doris Drennan and her husband, Joe, of Lindsay, OK; her brothers, Odell Parker and his wife Glenda, of Lindsay, OK, and Rudy Parker and his wife, Wynema, of Eastland, TX; her brother-in-law, Clyde Cosby, of Lindsay, OK; her brother-in-law Robert Swaim and his wife, RuthAnn, of Watonga, OK and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her family, she will be greatly missed by her friends, her church family and the patients whose lives she touched beyond measure.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Okeene First Baptist Church or Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children.
