Ruth Elizabeth Swafford passed away on June 19, 2018 in Enid, Oklahoma. Ruth was born on January 8, 1921 in Ashland, Kansas to Pearl and William Dewey.
Her family moved to Buffalo, Oklahoma where her daddy owned a dairy in town. In 1936 she married Walter Drew and together they had four children: Bonnie Ruth Bradshaw, Jacqueline Carol Brown, Eddie Elijah Drew and Wilda Virginia Tripp. Walter and Ruth were married for 14 years when he passed away at a very young age.
In 1951 she met Frank Swafford where they made their home in Nevada for 40 years. For 20 years she was a cook at the Senior Palace and when retiring, there was a plaque created with her name on it that stated "Best Cook in the World".
In 2003 her and Frank retired and moved to Oklahoma to be closer to family in Texas and Oklahoma. Frank passed away in 2005.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters and 2 brothers; husbands Walter Drew and Frank Swafford; daughter Jacqueline Brown; infant son Eddie Drew; and son-in-law Jennings "Brad" Bradshaw;
Ruth is survived by daughters Bonnie Bradshaw and Wilda (George) Tripp; grandchildren Johnny (Lorena) Bradshaw, Sherri (Terry) Tinkey, Theresa Brown, Robert (Dee) Brown, Steve (Sabine) Tripp and Bonnie (Dennis) McClure; 22 great-grandchildren; 34 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-great-grandchild;
Ruth was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Two things that she always said to all of those around her was "until you have walked in someone else's shoes never judge them" and "if you never return the love offered to you, love will die".
Private family graveside services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church in Enid, OK.
