Rosalie Suderman, 89, of Bartlesville, died Tuesday in Dewey.
Rosalie was born the daughter of Alex and "Ruby" Rebecca (Schneider) Dout on Jan. 15, 1927 in Okeene, OK. She was raised and educated in the Okeene area. After graduating from Okeene High School in 1945, she worked various jobs in cafes, a hospital, nail factory, and at an egg breaking plant that produced powdered eggs for the war effort.
While only 17, Rosalie met Joseph Suderman at a youth conference in Hillsboro, KS. She attended one semester at Tabor College in Hillsboro before uniting in marriage with Joseph on Aug. 8, 1948 in Okeene. They made their home in Hillsboro before moving to Enid, OK, for a year to complete Joe's undergraduate degree, then progressing to Kansas City, MO, for his medical school. They then completed his residency in Tulsa before starting private practice in McLean, TX, in 1955. The family shifted to Pharr, TX, in 1961 where Joe and his cousin, Emery, opened a joint medical practice. Joe and Rosalie moved back to Hillsboro in 2001 before relocating to Bartlesville in 2009 to be close to two of their daughters.
Rosalie's passions in life were the Lord and her family in that order. She was a prayer warrior and made an effort to learn the names of people she encountered in life and to pray faithfully for them. Rosalie was a loving and supportive wife, and encouraged her husband's love for others, giving half-price medical care at his practice to missionaries and accompanying him on many of his medical missions. She was determined to raise her children up in the church, requiring music lessons and encouraging them to sing at church. Family highlights of time spent together were the month-long vacations they took every year, driving in the family station wagon. Once the children were grown she volunteered faithfully in the church nursery. She loved reading, spelling bees and playing games which she was competitive at. Rosalie was proud of her children and grandchildren, and she will be dearly missed by them and all who knew her.
Rosalie is survived by her six children, Philip Suderman and Deborah of Dallas, Rachel Stella and Charles of Magnolia, TX, Laura Hughes and Jim of Charles City, IA, Evelyn Hightower and Dennis of Bartlesville, OK, Teresa Marple and Keith of San Antonio, TX, and Nancy Kyle and Jack of Independence, KS; 12 grandchildren, Michelle, Jason, Katherine, Kyle, Blake, Bryan, Megan, Grace, Judith, Paige, Madeline and Joey; and, five great grandchildren, Jackson, Daxton, Greyson, Maxmillion and Leah. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons-in-law, Nevin Frymire and Bill Westholm; four brothers, Alvin Dout, Boyd Dout, George Dout and Danny Dout; and four sisters, Selma Held, Martha Cink, Dorothy Loewen and Ruby Ann Dout.
