Sud was born to B. P. Sudberry, Junior and Bonnie Jennings Sudberry in Dallas, Texas. He spent his early childhood in Buluxie, Mississippi and later Ada, Oklahoma where he graduated from high school. The summer of his senior year his parents moved to Muskogee and Sud moved to Norman to attend The University of Oklahoma where he became a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. The highlight of his college journey was a blind date with Trudy Preston, the luckiest day of his life. Luck turned into commitment and a lifelong love as they were married June of 1967. They endured and survived 53 years of marriage and happily gave life to Blake Sudberry and Tracey Sudberry. In turn , both boys later married the love of their lives, Tina Hill Sudberry and Mary Charlene Sudberry. Blake and Tina married 24 years have children Hunter 22, Rylee 19, and Carter 13. Tracey, married just 2 years has 8-month-old Tucker, and stepson 9-year-old Levi .
Sud served 2 years in the United States Army as a second lieutenant at Fort Lewis Washington. He and Trudy returned to Muskogee to begin his banking career at Commercial Bank. After serving as President of 2 banks in the Tulsa area, he returned to Muskogee to assume a position with Victor Federal Savings and Loan. When his time at Victor Federal came to a close, he pursued the opportunity to purchase the First National Bank of Boynton, a family bank initiated by his grandfather in 1904 in Indian Territory. In 1995 he petitioned the Federal Reserve to relocate the bank to Muskogee under the new name of Territory National Bank. Here he culminated his banking career in 2005 when he and Trudy retired and set their course on a new adventure. They have fully lived and loved and cultivated a 40-acre parcel of land complete with an 80-year stone cottage west of the city limits.
In his lifetime, Sud loved people , and won their hearts with his ornery humor and lighthearted nature. His boldness in character, leadership and stature, along with his amazing personality truly made lasting impressions on almost anyone he met. His true gift of teaching and sharing his life knowledge made him invaluable to loved ones and friends.
He loved everything outdoors. One of his proudest accomplishments was establishing a family cabin in Red River New Mexico where his dream of creating lifelong family memories for generations to come was realized. After retirement he loved his tractor(s). "Suddy" had the privilege to have 3 lifelong equally ornery friends - Vaughn Esper, Jim Hunter, and David Logsdon. It is uncanny that while not blood related, he embodied the best of all three - Vaughn's love of outdoors, Jim's proficient business acuity and David's sense of humor.
Sud is also survived by Sidney Sudberry Greathouse and her children Jennifer Fall, James Greathouse, and Leslie and David Gravelle. Also surviving is his younger sister Virginia (Ginny) Brandecker and her children Bonnie Brandecker Adams and husband Matt, Bill Brandecker, and Elizabeth Brandecker. There a host of wonderful cousins and second and third cousins who all were precious to Sud.
To sum up his life, his grandchildren coined a phrase: Papa Sud. The man. The myth. The legend.
