Lovenia Darlene (Hamilton) Sturm
August 10, 1939 ~ June 18, 2017

Lovenia Hamilton Sturm, 77, of Norman, OK passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017. She was born August 10, 1939 in Bartlesville, OK to Everett and Sylvia Chandler Hamilton.

She grew up in Bartlesville and Dewey, OK, where she graduated from Dewey High School in 1957. Lovenia greatly enjoyed cooking and held various jobs in the food industry before attending college. She received a degree in a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Northeastern State University in 1974. After receiving a Masters Degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from Oklahoma State University in 1975, she worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Oklahoma from 1976 to 1996. Lovenia greatly enjoyed her employment as a Rehabilitation Counselor. In 1987 she completed an extensive 10 week course in an Orientation to Deafness from the University of Tennessee and became the first counselor certified to work with the Deaf in her region. Lovenia married Kenneth Sturm in 1978. Lovenia and Ken were very active in many Veterans Organizations in their community, including The Royal Order of Moose, DAV, and AMVETS. Lovenia was President of the AMVET Women’s Auxiliary. Lovenia and Ken loved to travel to see their family and friends. Lovenia was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting. She crocheted many items for her family, friends, and church. Lovenia was also a member of The Red Hat Society of Oklahoma. She was also known for her wit and uncanny sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Paul Hamilton, and her husband, Ken.

Lovenia is survived by her sister, Evelyn Coyne, of Tulsa, OK, children, Jeanette Anderson and husband, Randy, of Norman, OK, Denise Shackelford and husband, Austin, of Jacksonville, FL, step-children Kenneth and Jan Sturm, Lorraine Christensen, Gary and Cindy Sturm, LaVonne Sturm, and Brian Sturm. She was loved by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Havenbrook Funeral Home Chapel to be officiated by Rebekah Williams, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Lovenia Hamilton Sturm to LifeSpring Hospice.
