The memorial services for Gladys (Misty) Stuart will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Anderson Burris Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Don Tines officiating.
Gladys (Misty) was born July 5, 1947, to Linus and Ileane Schonhardt and died December 14, 2021.
Misty grew up in Magna, Utah, and after graduating from Cypress High School joined the Army in 1965. She served five years on active duty and six years in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Misty met and married James Stuart while on active duty in Hawaii. They moved to Utah when they were discharged and a year later moved to Oklahoma. They later divorced but not before they had two wonderful children, James M. (Jimmy) Stuart and Jamie Lee Stuart Garen, the joys of her life. Their wonderful spouses Branda and Grant brought even more happiness, knowing that her children had met their soulmates and were happy. Grandchildren Dalton, Kinzie, Gotham and Jemma only added to the joy.
She worked for the postal service for forty years as a city carrier and clerk, before becoming a rural carrier, the job she always believed was the best in the post office.
When she became a rural carrier, she joined the National Rural Letters Union. She served a local steward, as an officer of the Northwest District before being elected to the executive board of the Oklahoma Rural Letter Carriers, serving as an executive committeeman, Vice President and President. She was also an academy instructor, teaching new rural carriers coming to work for the post office.
She then was elected to Southwest Area Conference board, which is made up of rural carriers from Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
When she retired in August 2011 she said she wanted to rest her body and mind for a year before she did anything else but resting was never easy for her and within a month Golden Oaks Senior Living Center was in need of a driver to take resident to Doctors appointments, get their hair done or to the bank, and she believed God leads us down the paths we are meant to be on and she felt she was meant to be there for the residents, but she soon discovered the residents brought her so much joy that she believed they were meant to be there for her.
Through the Postal food drive benefiting the local food bank, the Horn of Plenty, she became involved with the Horn of Plenty and served on its board, helping not only with the postal food drive but the spring and fall city food drives.
For many years she was a member of the American Business Women's Association, Excelsior Chapter, serving in many offices, and was elected woman of the year. She loved their goal of giving scholarships to women and girls who might not otherwise be able to go school.
Misty was many things to many people: a loving daughter, sister, mother and friend. Her great love of Christmas and belief in sharing and giving to others was a blessing to all. She was someone to laugh with, a shoulder to cry on, a devoted employee, and a light shining not only with her family but with her rural carrier family and in her community, touching more lives than she could ever know with her kindness, and she will be greatly missed.
If you plan to attend the service she asked that you come in casual attire and be comfortable and, yes, this includes overalls and Dickies.
Surviving are her son, Jimmy Stuart and wife, Branda, and wonderful grandchildren, Dalton and Kinzie; her daughter, Jamie Garen and husband, Grant, and wonderful grandchildren, Gotham and Jemma; two sisters, Barbara Gehay and Kathie Bradley; three nephews and their families.
She requested in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Furever Friends.
