Arleva Ruth Leitner Strickland was born April 15, 1925 in Durham, Oklahoma to J. Wesley and Flora Hundly Leitner and passed away Monday, July 13, 1987 in Amarillo, Texas after and extended illness.
Arleva grew up in the Durham community, starting to school in the old Clifford School and graduated from Durham High School.
Arleva and Merle Strickland were married in 1942. Later they operated a grocery store in Durham for several years. In 1945 they moved to Amarillo.
After moving to Amarillo, Arleva becam a self employed beautician.
She was a long time member of the Durham Church of Christ and later the Central Church of Christ in Amarillo.
She was a Gold Star mother.
She was preceded in death by a son, Gail, in 1971; her parents; a brother, J. Wesley Leitner; and an infant sister, Linnie Jane.
Among the survivors are her husband of the home; two daughters, Doris Ruth Newman of Carter, Oklahoma; Karen Ann Harp of Rugby, Texas; one granddaughter, Annie Ruth Newman of Weatherford, Oklahoma; two sisters, Viola White of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; and Blanche Darran of Sayre, Oklahoma; as well as other friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held in Memorial Park Garden, Amarillo, Texas, with Cecil Burch officiating.
A short graveside service was conducted in the Prairie Dell Cemetery, Gem City, Texas.
