Robert L. “Bob” Stone passed away after a brief illness on July 24, 2015 in Austin Texas.
He was the second of four boys born to Kenneth and Gladys Stone on December 25, 1935. Bob grew up in California but his family traveled back to Lexington frequently while he was growing up.
The Stone family was very close to Roy Thompson and his family, and upon Bob’s return from military service in Alaska he and Delores Thompson were married. They raised two children, Robin and David and lived for several years in Alaska.
There, he honed his master craftsman skills and in addition to building 27 customer homes he designed and built two very unique homes for his family that they lived in throughout the years. In 1987 the family moved to various areas in the “lower 48”. Bob returned to the San Jose area where he was raised. There he fulfilled a lifelong dream when he founded the Sons of Jubal – a band he played saxophone with that performed Christian songs using big band arrangements. That band continues today and performs each year at various festivals and events across California. In 2006 Bob met and married Esther Anderson, and they resided in Austin at the time of his passing.
Bob leaves behind his wife Esther, two children Robin Stone and partner Lisa Tedeschi of Atlanta, Dr. David Stone and wife Mindy of Green Bush NY, three brothers, Ken and Betty Stone from Sacramento, Harvey and Beth Stone from San Jose and Ron and Carol Stone from Reno. Additional survivors include step- children Mark and Dan Adams and Charise Woodall all of California. He will be missed by five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday July 29th. at Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell OK.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be forwarded to a veteran’s foundation that Bob was passionate in his support of. They are” Heroes Night Out”, and they can be contacted at www.heroesnightout.org.
