The memorial service celebrating and honoring the life of Ray A. Stone will be held at a later date. Complete cremation care and services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Ray was born Feb. 9, 1937, to Floyd and Lesta Stone in Enid and passed from this life Aug. 22, 2020, in Enid.
He was raised and educated in Enid. He was briefly in the United States Navy at the age of 17 and was medically discharged in 1954. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the United States Army. He received his GED while serving in the Army. He was very proud to be a United States veteran.
He married Evelyn Hill Feb. 10, 1960, in Covington, Okla. Within a few days he left for his tour in Germany. On his return he was stationed at Fort Lewis Wash., where their first daughter Katherine was born in 1961. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1963.
He and his family settled in Enid, Okla., where their second daughter Donna was born in 1964 and their son Brian was born in 1966. He worked for Culligan soft water, he joined the labor union and helped build the KOCH plant formerly known as Farmland. During this time, he also built on to his family home. Later he worked in the Champlin Refinery for Freeman's Scaffolding, where he met Rick Thompson, with whom he formed a special bond. He went on to start Ray A. Stone's Painting Company in 1983 and continued to work until his health deteriorated and forced him to retire in 2006. He faced many medical challenges and never complained.
Ray was always a hard worker and determined in reaching his goals. In retirement he still stayed busy with many projects around his home. He enjoyed woodworking, music, watching game shows, specifically Wheel of Fortune, being cantankerous and giving everyone a hard time although, he truly loved his family. He especially loved sitting outside on the deck with his dog Ringo.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn, of the home; daughter, Donna DeYapp, of Farmington, N.M; one son Brian and Shana Stone, of Bixby, Okla.; and daughter, Brenda Suddeth from a previous marriage; ex-son-in-law Wayne Miller, of Covington; six grandchildren, Kari and Jason Brown, Jennifer Brakhage, of Enid; Shila Stone, of Bixby; Britin Stone and Sara, of Broken Arrow; Rayven and Cody Walls and Rylan DeYapp, of Farmington, N.M.; 11 great-grandchildren, Bryson, Keegan, Adalyn, Blake, Brooklyn, Mattie, Jameson, Journey, Daklon, Brexton, Tinley and a baby girl due in November.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Katherine Miller; one son-in-law, Robert DeYapp; and six siblings.
The family would also like to extend their sincerest gratitude to Dr. Tom Snyder, Dr. Uma Guniganti, the staff, and special care givers at Greenbrier Nursing Home for the love, kindness and care they provided.
Memorials may be made in his honor to the Enid SPCA with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
