Cecil Carl Stewart, 81, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018 at his home in rural Bartlesville.
Carl, as he was known to family and friends, was born June 13, 1936 at Sand Springs, Oklahoma to James Oscar Stewart and Mary Madeline (Moreland) Stewart. He grew up in Sand Springs and was a graduate of Charles Page High School. After graduation, Carl joined the U.S. Navy where he would serve the next 20 years, retiring from his recruiting duties with the rank of MM1E6 (First Class Machinist Mate). Upon his Honorable Discharge, Carl went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and retired in 1997 as Chief of Operations of the Heat & Air Department. He married Janis Marie Vinson on April 5, 1975 at Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple made Bartlesville their home until Janis' death, January 1, 2016.
He enjoyed taking care of his family; his yard and his pool. Carl loved to travel and the Chicago Cubs. He was a member of Ramona Friends Church for many years.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Janis; by a son, Mark Lefler; by six siblings, Doris Higgins, Harlan Stewart, Helen McPherson, Alene Rice, Juanita Brown and Gene Stewart and by two grandchildren, Corinne Witherow and Nathan Wrana.
Survivors include four children, Tonya Horn and her husband, Bobby of Lehigh, Oklahoma, Jeff Lefler and his wife, Michelle of Norman, Oklahoma, Michael Stewart and his wife, Brenda of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Sasha Burge and her companion, Jeremy Dempster of Bartlesville; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Melton and Patsy Vinson; a niece, Rhonda Childers of Broken Arrow; a nephew, Dennis King of Tulsa; great-nieces and great-nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service for Cecil Carl Stewart will be held 3:00 pm, Thursday, May 24, 2018 in the Chapel of Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home with Rev. Sherman Jaquess, officiating. Military rites will be accorded Mr. Stewart. Services are under the direction of Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.
