Ruby Nell (Seay) Stevens of Hastings, OK was born the first day of spring, March 20, 1935 into a Nazarene parsonage in Texas to her parents, Rev. Lonnie M. and Minty Lee (Welborn) Seay. On July 12, 2020, Jesus came and took her hand and walked her to her new heavenly home.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 14 years, Billy DeWayne Stevens, her parents, her sisters, Faye Patrick, Naomi Thompson Townsend, Mary West, Jessie Thomas, and Mida Lee Seay (19-day old infant); great-grandson, Tony Clark, Jr.; granddaughter, Naomi McWilliams.
She is survived by her daughter, Freda Stevens; her son, Fred Stevens; her sister, Ann Creel Campbell; grandchildren, Kathy Clark, Kristie McNamara, Crystal McWilliams, Aliesha Sexton, Dustin Sexton, and Amanda Stevens; great-grandchildren, Chris Clark, Justin Clark, Sara Adkison, Katie McNamara, Jeremy Piner, Mariah Bolter, and Kashton Lange; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ruby was a delightful soul who loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and was faithful to share her faith with others. She could brighten up a room in no time and was the “life of the party,” so to speak. She could keep you entertained for hours telling you stories, especially of her younger days. She was an excellent cook and loved to invite people over to share a delicious home-cooked meal with. She truly had a Personal Ministry over the years. In her younger days, she taught the junior Sunday school class and worked with the teenagers in NYPS. Later on, she taught a young marrieds’ Sunday school class called the Lifeliners and a singles Sunday school class. She, along with her children, worked in the bus ministry at Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Bethany in the 1970’s. One particular Sunday morning, 105 people attended church that day at her invitation. In her later years, she loved to send out cards of encouragement.
She was the queen of genealogy research and loved to make genealogy and picture books for her family and she even wrote, typed and self-published her own autobiography which she titled, “God’s Amazing Grace.” She was a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene.
She was a wonderful Mother and MeMaw to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We will miss her dearly, but we know she is celebrating in Heaven and we are happy for her.
