Linda Kay Stevens was born to Mary Catherine Nolen and Craven Welch Tramell on October 8th, 1942.
She had one of those voices that was unmistakably hers alone. Her laugh was a catalyst for your own laughter. She was the center of every room she was in and she made each person feel like they were the star. She had the gift of making people feel important and seen. If she met you, she left you better than you were before.
She was a registered nurse, a talented vocalist, a captivating performer, and an acclaimed artist whose successes were marked by incredible experiences.
She was a trail blazer for the LGBTQ+ community, working with TOHR in the late 80's and later co-founding Follies Review; A non-profit whose annual performances benefited local community organizations that provided care and services to those with HIV/ Aids.
Her strength knew no bounds.
She was born with a cleft pallet, during a time of limited medical intervention. She was an avid supporter of operation smile, providing cleft surgeries and care to children that need them.
She fought from day 1 to be here.
She was a thyroid cancer survivor.
She was a lymphoma survivor.
She was a fighter.
For herself. For others.
She was an artist, an advocate.
But most of all she was a loving partner, a proud mother, a devoted nana and a get-on-the-floor-hands-on great-nana.
She passed on November 25th, 2025.
Her full impact can never be quantified but the difference she has made will continue to ripple for generations.
She is proceeded in death by her mother, Mary; Her father, Craven; Her brother, Gene; And her sister, Shirley. She was survived by her loving partner, Janet Gearin; Her daughter, Jennifer Kauffman and her husband Glenn Kauffman; Her grand-daughter Maegan Rygiel and her husband Ryan Rygiel; And her great-grandchildren Boston, Maisie, and Tess Rygiel.
A celebration of life will be held at the Dennis R. Neill Equality Center after the new year.
