Max Edgar Stephenson of Guthrie, Oklahoma | 1936 - 2009 |

Funeral services for Max Edgar Stephenson, 73, of Crescent, OK, will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2009 at Smith Memorial Chapel, Guthrie, OK with Reverend Dwayne Schroeder of Lutheran Church of Our Savior of Bethany, OK officiating. Burial will take place at 4:00 p.m., Monday at St. Michael Lutheran Cemetery, Jetmore, KS. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.

Max was born on July 6, 1936 in Guthrie, OK to Olie Frank and Evelyn L. (Anderson) Stephenson. He died Wednesday, August 19, 2009 in Oklahoma City, OK.

Max attended high school in Minneola, KS where loved sports and played football and basketball. He also built and raced street cars.

Max attended college to obtain an engineering degree, but was lured after one year to the lucrative field of natural gas pipelining and welding. Over the years, he became a much sought after pipe fitter and welder and decided to settle in Kansas and start a welding / farm repair service. Later after a rancher approached him about the idea, he started his own custom metal building business, using his knowledge gained and engineering ability. Later he and his wife Rose used his construction experience to form a storage unit rental company in Garden City, KS where he retired from.

Max always found time to pursue his love of flying aircraft, fishing, hunting, skeet shooting, and riding motorcycles.

He is survived by his son Kelly Stephenson of Gardnerville, NV, daughter Tracie Stephenson of Oklahoma City, sister Myrna Wall of Shreveport, LA, three granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.

Max is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Rose Elaine (Boger) Stephenson in 2007 and his parents.

Visitation will be held at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home on Sunday, 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Fleming, Garden City, KS 67846.
