Leonard Ernest Stephens, age 78, born in Falmouth, Kentucky, October 17, 1860, where he resided until 1901 when he moved to Cheyenne, Oklahoma and made his home until two years ago when he moved to Elk City.
He has been a member of the church for over 58 years. He was active in the community and church. He served as Sunday School Superintendant for 15 years.
He was a member of the Board of Stewarts through the years and served as Chairman a great many times. He was a trustee of the church almost continuously. He repeatedly said he felt prepared to go at any time.
He is survived by his wife, Julia F. Stephens, and two sons, Bert of Elk City; and Ernest of Long Lane, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. W. A. Cronin and Flora Stephens; two sisters, Mrs. Bobbie Calvert of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Minerva Simpson of Clovis, New Mexico; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He passed away at 10 o'clock p.m. March 13, 1939.
