Ponca City - Donna Marie Steenburgh (McDonald), known to most as Nana, passed away at her home on the evening of October 20, 2023 at the age of 73.
Donna was born in Victorville, CA and moved to Modesto, CA at the age of 2. At 16, she met the love of her life, Bill Steenburgh, at church in February 1966 and married the following October 2nd in Reno, NV. Bill and Donna were blessed with two daughters Cynthia and Louise, and three sons Timothy, Michael and Willy Steenburgh. Her many grandchildren, who all referred to her as "Nana" include Megan Smith and husband Patrick, Sara Reece, Charlee Martinez and husband Mike, Brandon Johnson, Joshua Johnson and wife Patty, Nicole Cortez and husband Willie, Jonah, Jesiah, JD and Avianne Steenburgh, and Megan Manns. Her great-grandchildren include Ryatt and Caitlynn Smith, James, Dominick, Andrew and Amiyah Martinez, Noah, Joaquin and Cruz Johnson, Dylan, Jordan, Santi and Sadi Cortez, Kaydence Seabolt and many more bonus grands she gathered along the way. Donna also had countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is survived by daughters, Cyndi Reece of Ponca City, Louise (Mark) Johnson of Modesto, and sons Michael Steenburgh (Davianne) of Antlers and Willy Steenburgh of Ponca City. She is also survived by her brother David Hunsaker (Donna) of Michigan, sister Betty Lott (Chester) of California and Sue Taylor and Jerry Wright (both of Arkansas) from her Aunt Edna's marriage to Woody Wright, both who she endearingly referred to as "Mom and Dad". Donna was met at the pearly gates with open arms by her loving husband, Bill Steenburgh, their son, Timothy, a brother, Howard, her parents and many siblings-in-love.
Despite her large family, Nana Donna always made time for everyone. She always provided support and love for her family, friends and strangers. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy. She had a small household daycare in the late 70s. After her youngest son entered school, she went to work at Modesto City Schools as a teacher's aide at Franklin Elementary, Fairview Elementary and Robertson Road Head Start. From there she helped raise her grandkids and worked at the family church in a few different positions. In September 2006, Bill and Donna retired to Ponca City, Oklahoma in search of a slower pace. However, they traveled to and from Oklahoma to California many times throughout the years to spend equal time with all their grandkids.
Nana was known for many things including her purple hair she would only allow her granddaughter Charlee to take care of, her quilts made with love in every stitch and if it was on sale, it didn’t matter, she was getting it!
