ENID, Okla. - The memorial service for Mr. John Daniel Steele, 63, of Enid, will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, in the Grace World Outreach Church, 2502 W. Elm. John Chambers will officiate.
An informal celebration of life service will follow at 4 p.m. at Turpin Theater (Gaslight Theatre) for friends and family to share their music and memories of John. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
He was born on Aug. 3, 1950, to Johnny P. and Dorothy June (Gritz) Steele in Enid, Okla., and passed away on July 4, 2014.
He attended Enid Public Schools and graduated from Enid High School in 1969. He began playing drums when he was 13 years old and developed a lifelong love for music.
During his junior high and high school years and shortly after, he played with several bands, including Poverty�s Children, before moving to Houston, where he continued to play drums for various groups including Orpheus, which was signed with AVC Record Label and recorded at Mickey Gilley�s studio.
After moving to California, John continued his musical career and also joined the Screen Actors Guild and the Theatrical Radio Association.
He appeared in many movies and sitcoms over a period of several years.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy June Steele; his sons, John Eric Steele and Brent Daniel Steele; his daughter, Cameo Erin Steele; sisters, Pam Vernon and husband, Greg and daughter Megan of Conifer, Colo., and Eileen Boggs and John Howell of Meeker, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny P. Steele.
Memorials may be given to Hospice Circle of Love who are greatly appreciated for providing comfort, love, strength, and support for John and his lifelong friend Debra (Linker) Swartwood over the past months.
Brown-Cummings will serve as custodian of the funds.
