Marjorie Ellen (Thompson) Starr was born in Granite, Oklahoma on October 14, 1929 to Bonnie Bruce (Savage) and Thelmer Stancle Thompson. She died on August 17, 2020 in Norman.
Marjorie graduated from Mangum High School in 1947 and was married to William Wesley Starr in 1947. She worked for her father at the Franklin Hotel Coffee Shop until she and her husband moved to Lawton, Oklahoma, where she began work with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, transferring with the company to Mangum, Oklahoma, Odessa, Texas and back to Lawton. After several occupations in other locations, the family moved to Blanchard, Oklahoma in 1972. In 1973, Marjorie went to work for the School of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Oklahoma and retired from there in 1994.
Marjorie’s children and grandchildren were the loves of her life. She enjoyed life to the fullest, especially with family and friends. Marjorie and Wesley divorced in 1998 but he remained a part of their family activities.
Marjorie is survived by one son, Mark Starr and his wife, Cindy; three daughters, Dana Maytubby and her husband, Phillip, Lisa Roberts, and Patty Kimbrough and her husband, Kevin; eight grandchildren, Joshua Starr and his wife, Brandi, Jeremiah Starr, Erin Vorderlandwehr and her husband, Patrick, Kyle Maytubby, Clement Roberts, III and his wife, Tory, Brandon Roberts and his wife, Bre, Christina Meyer and her husband, Travis, and Kayla Adams and her husband, Jeremy; twenty four great-grandchildren; one sister, Gloria Davenport and her husband, Ronnie; two nephews, Robert Davenport and Donald Davenport; and many other loved ones and friends.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lou and Arvil Savage and Tilden and Ellen Thompson; her parents, Bonnie and Thelmer Thompson; one brother, Donald Thompson; one son, Randy Starr; one grandson, Ryan Starr; and one son-in-law, Clement “Corky” Roberts.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 24, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in Blanchard. The family requests that those attending please wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Eisenhour Funeral Home of Blanchard.
