Cynthia Marie Stapp began eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 4, 2019, following a three-year cancer journey, a road which she traveled with grace, dignity and above all, a desire for each of her ordained days to bring ultimate glory and honor to the Father.
Cynthia was born on September 18, 1954 to Lindell and Marie Koontz in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Cynthia met Mark Stapp while attending a seminary extension course at Oklahoma Baptist University and they were married on June 29, 1979. Together they were blessed with five children: Michelle Cheng, husband, Mike; Jonathan Stapp, wife, Lisa; Sarah Adkinson, husband, Josh; Rachel Stapp and Rebekah Stapp. In the early years of their marriage, they pastored several churches across Mississippi, Missouri, and finally Oklahoma where they have spent the past 20 years serving on staff at Cherokee Hills Baptist Church.
Cynthia's greatest desire in all that she did was to point others to Jesus and share His love with those around her. Whether through patiently homeschooling her five children, selflessly caring for a special-needs child, being a devoted pastor's wife, homemaker, prayer warrior, and even through her battle with cancer, this passion was evident in all that she did.
One of her favorite pastimes was scrapbooking, to reflect on the faithfulness of God and share it with the next generation. She also enjoyed opening her home to family and friends, striving to make all who entered feel loved and special. Though most of her time was spent behind the scenes, the impact of her loving, faithful service and witness are undeniably far-reaching.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gary Koontz.
Left to cherish her precious memory and example are her devoted husband, Mark; her five children and spouses; twelve grandchildren; brother, Craig Koontz; sister, Celinda Olszewski; and many other family and friends.
Viewing will be Monday January 7th, 9am to 9pm with family present from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday January 8th, 1:00pm at Cherokee Hills Baptist Church.
